Some more finished figures: a few additions to the zombie horde and some Heresy Hellhounds.
The zombies were from various manufacturers, including Reaper and Tengu. The Reaper Zombie is the one with the dog, and it's a huge figure. If I ever need a boss zombie style character, this one is definitely in the running.
I've never been particularly happy with my zombie flesh, and I usually end up taking a different approach with each batch. This time was a basecoat of Vallejo Flat Flesh (which didn't cover very well), followed by washes of green, red and purple, all tied together with a light brown wash. It looks pretty bad in the pictures below, but looks okay from a distance. I'm just starting the Zombicide fatties, and I'm trying a different approach with them.
Note - I'm still having photography issues, hence the silhouette in some of the images below from the flash. These are actually the good pictures - my first attempts were so blurred that the figures blended into the background.
The Reaper figure
The Heresy Hellhounds were quick to paint, but took a lot of preparation. They're multipart metal, and there were a number of gaps that I had to fill after gluing them together. I wasn't sure how to base them - especially the leaping ones - but in the end I went with oval MDF bases and a lot of 2-part epoxy to secure them.
I went with a traditional red, rather than anything more exciting. It was washed with black and highlighted with a lighter red. Not a group of figures that will be used a huge amount, but I was looking for a quick side project while I was spending time on airbrushing and scenery, and these were ideal.
The pack of Hellhounds
The werewolf (also Heresy) was painted in the same batch. Again, pretty much a single colour, wash and drybrush.
Interesting minis. What are you using for basing material?
ReplyDeleteActually I think the camera work is pretty good on this lot.
It's texturing Gel. I've been trying to find one that's suitable as a road surface, but they're either too smooth or too rough. They're also a pain to paint. These were done with acrylic inks as that's the only thing I could find to get into all the cracks.
