Finished Mantic Corporation Marines

Just finished some Mantic Corporation Marines. Not the most exciting figures I've ever painted, but not the worst either.

I picked up the Corporation Marines at a show several years ago. As I'm on a bit of an SF kick at the moment, it seemed as good a time as any to paint them.

They're restic, and a pain in numerous parts of the anatomy to clean. Apparently the correct way is to slice off the mould lines, rather than scrape or file them. However, the lines were still pretty prominent after a lot of work.

The figures had been cut from their sprues by someone who hates gamers, and/or was having a really grumpy day, and there were a few shoulder edges that needed to be filled. Pose-wise, there are three body, arm and head variants. However, they all pretty much ended up looking the same.

It probably doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to deduce that I'm not the biggest fan of these figures, and the less said about the "clamp the figure in the vice and superglue both shoulders and left hand and squish them together so the rifle sits properly in the left hand and not 10mm to one side" part of building the figures, the better.

I decided to keep the paint scheme fairly simple, although I took the opportunity to dabble in some camouflage, which looks okay from a distance.

Troopers

The models come with a sprue of three reasonable looking weapons, so I decided to swap out one of the guns for what looks like a grenade launcher. There was a bit of patching required to blend the two parts together, but nothing dramatic.

Grenade Launcher

There's an officer figure with a power fist and pistol. I'm not a fan of power fists, but there were no other options, so I had to use it. There are some very strange angles on the officer's arms, and I'm really not sure what they were going for, but it looks very painful.

Officer Front Officer Back

In the end, they're perfectly usable figures. They have a decent hardish SF look (ignoring the power fist), and not an eagle or skull in sight, which is a bonus. However, if they had been plastic or metal, or had a bit more variety to them, they would have been so much better.
