I've painted up a number of spaceport workers this year, so thought it was time to give them some robotic helpers.
Just a quick editorial aside - the second of December marked my four year blogaversary (apparently a real word, as the spell check hasn't underlined it). Sadly I don't have an appropriate figure to celebrate, so here, instead, is a repeat of the first figure I posted.
We now return you to your regular service...
I picked up a whole lot of Bin Weevil toys last year from various places. There were quite a few variants, but some looked useful for gaming purposes. I painted up a test one, as discussed in this blog post from September 2013.
I decided to do a group as spaceport support droids, along with a robot from WALL-E I found in Poundstretcher and a couple of Heresy models (there were also three floating robots, but I forgot to photograph them).
The Brainless Bot
These are now inspection robots. The different sized eyes see in different wavelengths, allowing them to test for structural problems in machinery, spaceship hulls etc.. The band around the middle is either green or red, depending on whether or not it finds a problem.
Inspector robot in before and after states
I drew numbers onto the robots using a 0.1mm uni pen. Cheating a bit, but much easier to control than paint.
It's quite nicely scaled with 28mm figures. It's shown below with a Four A Miniatures and a Hasslefree figure.
As mentioned, I painted up a military one a while back.
The Ice Bot
These are general purpose carrying robots. They're not fast, but they are able to move heavy loads.
I forgot to take a shot of an unpainted one, but it's the back left figure below
Slightly bigger than 28mm figures, but not out of place
Comparison shot of it and an inspector droid
Cleaner robot
Not fully sure what it's game purpose is yet, but it looks flexible enough to be anything that's required.
This is a model of the M-O (Microbe Obliterator) droid from WALL-E. I picked up a couple of these in PoundStretcher, along with some of the other characters (which I've still to paint).
Cleaner robot in before and after states. The original base was almost fine, but was just too tall.
It's quite a bit bigger than 28mm figures, but again, not unreasonably so.
Relative sizes of the three robots
Heresy robots
The next figures are a couple of the Heresy robots. I slightly regret not doing them both as generic robots, but the lure of the not-K9 was just too much.
Next to 28mm figures
And finally, the whole happy family (less the flying robots, which as mentioned above, were too shy and didn't want to be photographed)
