Finished Koralon Larvan

Finished Koralon Larvan

I bought the Urban Mammoth Koralon Larvan strike team at Carronade 2011, but only got around to painting them recently.

I've just noticed that the strike team linked to above has been resculpted. This doesn't bother me too much, as I'm not using them for anything "official", and as they cost me £10.00, rather than £27.50 for the new ones, I think I'll stick with the ones I have :-)

I painted these up as some antagonists for my Demon apocalypse setting, although they may also see service in general science fiction games.

Nothing special on the painting front, just a quick basecoat, wash and highlight.

I had one of these first two before I bought the boxed set, but I can't remember which one.

There were two of each of the next two figures in the box

I think this figure is meant to represent a champion

The leader figure is one I bought and painted quite a few years ago, hence the slightly different colours (it was done in enamels, while the newer ones are acrylic)

The bases were done with Golden Gel Mediums, Extra Coarse Pumice Gel. This was the first time I'd used this material, and it was slightly strange...

When the gel was applied, it looked like it was going to be quite smooth with some lumpy bits in it - which was what I wanted. However, when it dried, the gel part completely disappeared, leaving only the lumpy bits. I didn't think it was going to work, but after painting it, I'm reasonably happy with the outcome. I may, however, pick up one of the less coarse tubs, as I think the extra coarse is too large. I'm not sure that it's any better than filler/PVA/gravel mixes, but it does mean that it's a single operation, which speeds things up a bit.
